I believe the statement was
I believe the statement was that the protest was a "contributing factor," not the "sole cause." Are you trying to say that driving a tractor 15 mph on a 70 mph freeway is not likely to lead to accidents of this nature? (And btw, a single CHP officer's opinion is not dispositive of the issue.)
I'm sorry, but the protest
I'm sorry, but the protest did NOT cause the accident on I-5. Actually the CHP stated in an interview that the cause of the accident was apparently the truck driver who was not paying attention. Just because a channel 47 reporter says something does not make it true. You should do a little more research before making such claims.
Bad For Image
I'm sure nobody planned for the truck driver to get seriously hurt. However, this type of behavior by men in their 40's and 50's is unbelievable! First they said they didn't have time to place a cell phone call to CHP to alert them of their protest. Then they came up with the story they knew it was dangerous so they had flashing lights on their vehicles and "wide load signs." Then to add insult to injury, they said the driver of that 18 wheeler should have been able to stop on a dime. This entire situation gives farming a black eye and doesn't help with their already tarnished image.

What do they mean by "they
What do they mean by "they didn't have time"? To hear them talk, you'd think they're all just sitting around with nothing to do while their fields dry up from lack of water.
