Water shortage is a rapidly growing problem not only here in California and the American Southwest but globally. Historically and prehistorically climate change and water availability have caused large changes in civilization and ecosystems. Such events will occur in the future. The survival of our civilization depends on how well we respond to the rapidly changing water conditions and its limitations. Unless we begin to fully understand the scope of this water crisis, future generations will have fewer choices for maintaining an adequate standard of living.

This film series is not intended to scare you, but to educate all of us about: the immediacy of the situation; a better understanding of our environment; and how our society is overreaching the limitations of its natural resources. To propose workable and sustainable solutions to our water crisis, we must first understand how we got here, what the many different problems are and their relative magnitudes.

To begin, we must first agree to abandon a strategy that produces winners and losers. Only if the limited water resource is shared equitably will we maintain a livable society.

The Film Series is meant to improve our understanding of water and its related issues and to provoke thoughtful conversation and discussion based on facts. To succeed at this goal, discussion leaders will try to focus the discussions and attempt to make certain that varying perspectives are heard.

The films we have chosen are not the only resources available, and where possible we will try to suggest further resources, especially readings that will expand your knowledge on one of the most important topics for this and future generations. We also welcome your suggestions and additions to our knowledge base.
